A Trip to Japan Vol. 2......

Japanese soul Saturday Feb. 21st, Nicholas will preform with Atsuko Hashimoto's Hammond organ trio at the club Manhattan in Osaka. Atsuko is one of Japan's amazing Ladies of the B3. She can regurlarly be found redefining the term smokin' at Osaka's Don Shop on the house Hammond. Her latest recording is Full Organ, featuring husband Yutaka Hashimoto's fleet fingered guitar work.

 

A Blast From the Past.....

Feb. 22nd, at 1pm Sunday afternoon, Nicholas will hook up with his old grade school classmate from Chicago, Atsushi Yagasaki, in a concert featuring Atsushi on the organ, drummer Hideaki Kakimoto and perhaps a few guests. This concert was a lot of fun last year and this year promises more of the same. It all happens in Toyonaka, Osaka, at the music store Seike Gakki.

Kobe........

Friday February 27th, Nicholas will be appear at Holly's in Kobe. Pianist Mieko Nagai and her trio will round out the band. This should be nice and cozy as Kobe is a small (only 1.5 million!) town and the band should have lotsa friends in attentence.

 

........Rug Time....

February 28th, Saturday, Nicholas will be the guest guitarist with Midori Ono's Hammond organ trio at the club with the great name, Rug Time in Osaka. Midori (pictured right with Nicholas last year at Rug Time) is one of Japan's hottest B3 masters. She has performed at the San Francisco and San Jose Jazz Fests and can be heard on her own recording Green's Blues.

A bullet train to Nagoya...

March 2rd, Tuesday, Nicholas will jump on a bullet train to Nagoya to guest with Hammond B3 man Junichi Naruse at Jazz Inn Lovely. What a name huh? Naruse (pictured left) has quite the reputation as a comic and a few laughs are expected!

Wednesday April 7th, a special concert with a twist: The twin tenors of Hadley Caliman (pictured with Nicholas) and Gary Hammon will form the bicuspids of a venomous quintet featuring an OGD rhythm section of Steve Czarnecki-Hammond B3, Jud Sherwood-drums and Nicholas-guitar. Watch for fireworks!! It all happens at the Boundary Bay Brewery in Bellingham. Careful of the brew, it's got a mean bite.

The Quartet......

The Real Deal Saturday May 8th, 9pm till midnight, Nicholas will bring his B3-powered quartet to the Grand Ave. Ale House. Rounding out the group will be veteran tenor saxophonist Gary Hammon, LA B3 wizard Mikal Majeed on the Hammond organ and the "Energizer" Jud Sherwood on drums. The Grand is a funky neighborhood joint without pretensions ;-) where the band will be free to let their hair down. It was a blast last time! It happens at 113 Grand Ave, B'ham Wa.

May 20th Friday, Nicholas will bring his quartet to the Skagit River Poetry Festival to open and close for National Poet Laureate Billy Collins' reading. Tenor saxophonist Gary Hammon, bassist Mark Bullis and drummer Teo Sutton will round out the group. It will will happen at the La Conner Middle School Auditorium at 7pm.

The B at the 'Shoe....

Kid Wonder Friday June 18th, 9pm till midnight, In the ongoing "Travelling Organ Donor Tour", Hammond B3 powered jazz comes to one of Washington's oldest restuarants (actually we'll be in the bar), The Horseshoe Cafe. This place has character. This month's organ transplant is Delvon (Kid Wonder) Dumas whose organ pyrotechnics are guaranteed to thrill. Gary Hammon's tenor sax, Jud Sherwood's drums, and Nicholas' guitar will make it a quartet. Right in the krux of B'ham at 113 E. Holly St.

 

Barney's Back in Town!!

July 17th Saturday, at our favorite watering hole, the Grand Ave. Ale House, Nicholas will reunite with former Pt. Townsend mayor, jazz legend, Alaska resident and B3 whiz Barney McClure for the July installment of the Travelling Organ Donor Tour. Barney can be heard on Nicholas' '97 release Nick's Tricks. Drummer Jud "The Energizer" Sherwood will make it a trio. 113 Grand Ave. B'ham is the spot.

handsome devil huh? Friday August 13th, 9pm till midnight, the "Travelling Organ Donor Tour" marks it's third monthly incarnation with Seattle's hottest Hammond B3 whiz Joe Doria making a rare B'ham appearance. The usual suspects fill out the trio, Nicholas on guitar and Jud Sherwood on tubs. It all takes place in the Boundary Bay Brewery beer garden in Bellingham. Careful of that beer, it's home brewed and tricky.

 

Jammin' on the Hammond!

Sept. 11th Saturday, in Deming WA, Nicholas brings his quartet to the Jammin on the Hammond festival. This outdoor concert will feature 5 diverse bands, all utilizing the Hammond organ (!!) in a benifit for Nooksak Youth Programming. Gospel, Blues, Funk, Jazz (that's Nicholas) and Reggae. Check out the website for more details (link above). It's gonna be way cool. Gary Hammon, Delvon Dumas and Teo Sutton (tenor, B3 and drums) will fill out the quartet, scheduled for 3:45 pm. Southern Migration...

Sept. 17 Friday, at the newly revamped Rogue Hero (it's a bar), Vancouver organist Chris Gestrin with make his way south for a spleen transplant as the on going Travelling Organ Donor Tour makes it's 4th incarnation. Chris is very, very, very, very good. Don't miss it as he doesn't usually get down this way. It took a bit of arm twisting. Nicholas' guitar and Jud Sherwood's drums fill it out to a trio. 1313 N. State, Bellingham is where it's at.

Pumpkins and Organs..

Oct. 30th Saturday, the Travelling Organ Donor Tour makes it's 5th stop, this time in the lounge at the Cafe Akroteri, 1219 Cornwall, in B'ham. Piloting the hammond on this Halloween weekend will be soulful Los Angeles B3 maestro Mikal Majeed (pictured right). Filling out the quartet will be Gary Hammon-tenor sax, Nicholas-guitar, and Jud Sherwood on tubs. It's heart transplant night!!

California Soul...

Nov. 14, Sunday, at Downtown Johnny's, Santa Cruz B3 wizard Steve Czarnecki, put on his raincoat and galoshes travel up to Bellingham for a gallbadder transplant. The Tour is on it's 7th venue! Can it keep finding new homes? Stay Tuned. 1408 Cornwall Ave, Bellingham is the spot.
